Art:

Cecilia’s artistic development began in her home country Colombia, exploring painting, ceramics, sculpture and jewelry as well as collaborating in the making of masks. She also studied courses in history of art and photography. After moving to Panama in 2000, she attended classes in photography, blacksmithing and clay modeling as well as teaching art/mask workshops for children and assisting in the making of carnival floats. The next move was to the United States, where she did courses on Polaroid printing , image transfer and enameling.

In 2001 she moved to London, where she completed a Foundation Degree in Art and Design at Camberwell College of Arts. In Panama, some of her work was exhibited at the ‘Festival de San Felipe”. In London she was commissioned to paint backdrops for children’s parties and started face painting. She is also available for mural and set painting.

Cecilia has been face-painting professionally since 2003 in London and abroad and is covered by public liability insurance. She has worked mainly at children’s parties and festivals but also at corporate events, nightclubs and for performance and theatre.

Masks:

Cecilia learned to make masks from a very early age, working along side her mother in the production of masks for theatre and television as-well as for decoration. She then started to make her own masks experimenting with different media such as metal, plaster and wax. In London, she began developing her stile further and incorporating wire and board to play with dimensions and has made several masks under request and for her own performances, as well as provided workshops for children and adults.

Performance:

She has been involved in theatre since 1997, when she started stilt-walking in Colombia. In Panama she did a stilt walking performance for the “ festival de san Felipe”. In London she performed in collaborations with “New Generation” as well as for promotions for Corona.

After working for children’s theatre in Panama as an actress and set painter, she traveled to Colombia doing ecological circus shows with “Semilla de la Alegria” and taking part at the circus convention 2005 combining stilt- walking with poi spinning. Then she returned to London where she studied performance and theatre skills at Goldsmith’s College. Since, in 2009, she has been at Elefest and Thames festival. Also worked on a monologue of “Despoiled Shore Medea-material Landscape with Argonauts” by Heiner Mueller for New generation’s 10 years anniversary. Now she expands her practice of poi spinning while dreaming of training in physical theatre.
